Almost 50% of unemployed over-50s want to work – however a third believes their age stopping them back from being hired according to a study by Barclays Apprenticeships. As reported in the Daily Mail over half felt they had no choice in having to leave their previous employment, with approximately 20% being unemployed owing to injury or poor health. Interestingly almost 50% in the report would like to return to the workforce. Others in the survey cited redundancy or caring for family members as their reason for leaving employment.

Of the 1,000 over 50s talking to Barclays 66% felt they possessed transferable skills and their ability to work with modern technology was not a challenge.

Barclays has launched a scheme for over 50’s employment, though looking at their website it doesn’t exactly jump out at me! See what you think at: http://jobs.barclays.co.uk/apprenticeships-and-work-experience/
