I’ve been running my small business in Ajman for a few years now and I’ll be honest, I’ve always thought reusable packaging sounded like one of those nice-in-theory things that just wouldn’t work for a small operation like mine. Too expensive, too complicated, too much hassle trying to get customers to return things. But I finally sat down last week and really looked into it properly instead of just assuming it wouldn’t work. I ended up spending a couple hours reading through https://uaekhaleej.com/shift-from-cardboard-to-reusable-packaging-gulf/ and a few other resources, and honestly I’m feeling a lot more optimistic than I expected. The article broke down how businesses in the Gulf are starting small with reusable systems for local deliveries, using durable containers that can be used dozens of times before they need replacing, and it actually seems manageable. I’ve got a handful of regular clients that I deliver to every week on the same route, and I realized I could probably start with them without a huge upfront investment. I’m thinking durable plastic totes that I can just swap out each delivery drop off the new order, pick up the empties from last time. Seems simple enough. I’m curious for those who’ve done this, what kind of containers did you end up using and how did you handle tracking who had what? I don’t want to overcomplicate things but also don’t want to lose a bunch of totes to customers forgetting to set them out.
