Care homes league table

CQC inspections analysed – a unique care homes league table puts Milton Keynes

Council at the top

The Care Quality Commission’s State of Care report offers an indispensable overview of the quality of a whole range of health and care services across England.

CQC ratings have become much more telling now, based as they are on ‘aspirational’ Fundamental Standards of care which are on the way to replacing the old ‘bare minimum’ Essential Standards.

With its extensive remit, however, it is difficult to for CQC to cover all aspects in detail.

In the interests of adding to the debate on quality of care, and how it varies, healthcare consultancy LaingBuisson has used its Care Compliance Monitor* tool to carry out its own analysis of CQC ratings for care homes for older people in each council with adult social services responsibilities. The complete ‘league table’ is presented below.

Ignoring the very small councils, Milton Keynes Council comes out at the top, with 82% of care homes for older people – which have been inspected to date (as of July 2015) – being rated good or outstanding. Greenwich Royal London Borough comes out at the bottom, with none of the homes inspected achieving a ‘good’ rating.
